HOW TO INSTALL ENGINEERED/SOLID HARDWOOD FLOORING

Hardwood floors are rich with natural beauty and make a great investment for your home. Before starting the installation process, consult our tips to know what to expect and properly prepare so you can ensure that everything goes smoothly.

AT THE STORE

While you’re at the showroom selecting your new hardwood, inquire with your flooring specialist about professional installation. Some locations will have hardwood installers on staff, while others will recommend a trusted local independent installer. In most cases, the details of arranging the installation will all be handled for you.

PREPARING FOR INSTALLATION

There are several steps to take before your new hardwood is installed. Be sure to take care of any subfloor repairs before you start the installation process.

You should have your hardwood delivered at least two days in advance of the installation. Store the flooring in the rooms in which it will be installed so that it can properly acclimate to the environment. Temperature and humidity can affect your flooring, so be sure to follow manufacturer guidelines.

When your hardwood arrives, examine it for damage or defects and be sure to review any accompanying instructions.

Clear the installation areas before the installation team arrives.

DURING INSTALLATION

Be prepared for some mess, especially if old flooring needs to be removed prior to installation. Your installation team will bring all the tools and supplies needed to install your new hardwood, but will likely need access to storage space and power outlets. Be prepared to introduce them to their workspace and assist if necessary.

AFTER INSTALLATION

Your installer will likely provide you with maintenance and cleaning instructions, and you should be aware of manufacturer recommendations. Now you’re ready to enjoy your new hardwood floors for years to come!
