Vinyl Flooring Installation

HOW TO INSTALL LVT FLOORING

Modern luxury vinyl flooring technology makes installation quick and easy – often, the sheet or tile can be installed right over your existing floors at any angle. Even so, you may want to opt for professional installation to ensure that you’re using the proper underlayment, adhesive and seaming.

AT THE STORE

While you’re at the showroom selecting your new luxury vinyl tile or sheet products, ask your flooring specialist about professional installation. Usually, the details of arranging the installation will all be handled for you, but be sure you know ahead of time what the installers expect from you regarding the removal and disposal of existing flooring and moving larger pieces of furniture.

PREPARING FOR VINYL FLOOR INSTALLATION

There are several steps to take before your new laminate is installed. Be sure to take care of any subfloor repairs and cleaning before you start the installation process. All base and island cabinets should also be installed in advance so that flooring can be installed around them rather than underneath.

Your luxury vinyl will need two full days to acclimate to the environment in your space, so have your flooring delivered in advance! Store it in the rooms in which it will be installed based on the manufacturer's humidity and temperature recommendations.

When your laminate arrives, examine it for damage or defects and review any accompanying warranty information or instructions.

Depending on your installer’s instructions, you may need to clear the installation areas of furniture, appliances, wall and doorway trim before the installation team arrives.

DURING INSTALLATION

If you’re installing luxury vinyl planks made to mimic the look of hardwood, we recommend orienting them parallel to the longest wall in your space. If you’re not sure, don’t worry – your installers will advise you.

While installers will work efficiently, be prepared for some level of disruption to your daily routine. Your installation team will bring all the tools and supplies needed to install your new luxury vinyl, but will likely need access to storage space and power outlets. Be prepared to introduce them to their workspace and assist if necessary.

AFTER INSTALLATION

Your installer will likely provide you with maintenance and cleaning instructions, and you should be aware of manufacturer recommendations. You’re ready to enjoy your new luxury vinyl floor for many years to come!
